Why do we offer these devices together with our PIC® MCU development tools?
More than 1,000,000,000 personal computers were sold over the world, making the PC the least expensive, well known and powerful human interface. Therefore it is a very common task to interface a PC with an embedded controller. But the easy to use and simple traditional interfaces such as COM and LPT ports or ISA bus are being replaced by more complex and powerful ones like USB. The firmware and software implementation of these new interfaces is often very difficult, while the range of microcontrollers supporting USB is limited.
The USB solution by
FTDI (look at their website for more information) enables users to interface with USB very easily with the microcontroller best suitable for the application - for example the inexpensive and very flexible Flash MCU PIC16F627/628 supported by
MU Beta emulator.
